What Are Stylesheets?

1. A tool for defining document styling or layout information
   
   
2. A language for defining this information.
   
   
   • Cascading Stylesheets, or CSS
     
     
3. A browser applies a stylesheet to a document as it formats it for display.
   
   
4. Thus, preparing a document now has two aspects:
   
   
   • A document marked up with HTML.
   • A stylesheet that specifies formatting for the different HTML elements in the document.
