About Ian Graham

I am an Instructional Technology Specialist with the Information Commons of the University of Toronto. I essentially serve as a campus advisor on Information and Instructional Technology issues, with particular emphasis on the World Wide Web and the Internet. I also teach course on Internet publishing, and design and write Web-based productivity tools, such as the WebNotice system described below.

I am also the author of an on-line collection of HTML documentation, available at the URL http://www.utoronto.ca/webdocs/HTMLdocs/NewHTML/intro.html. This material, kept largely up-to-date by the author, was the precursor for the book The HTML Sourcebook.

By training I am a physicist, with a PhD and approximately 20 publications in computational statistical mechanics, condensed matter theory, and chemical physics. At present, my main interests are in the design of Web-based instructional materials; on-line publishing and Web-mediated information discovery. My other interests include distributed and parallel computing, multimedia design and virtual reality -- not to forget scientific computing and simulation.

Web Software

I have written several Web software packages, including the public domain program WebNotice. You can have a look at this pacakge in acation at the URL http://www.hprc.utoronto.ca/cgi-reg/notices_main.pl. If you are interested, ther software is freely available from http://www.hprc.utoronto.ca/Software/webnotice.html. Please register if you access this software, to ensure that you are kept informed of upgrades and patches.

Other Interests

I am a fan of Babylon 5, perhaps only because my wife does not like it ("Those goofs talk into their wrists....."). I also have a weakness for Mr. Bean. For physical endeavours, I enjoy skating and cross-country skiing, as well as rowing, jogging and weight training.

Jobs?

I am always looking for challenges. If you have something challenging to offer, why not get in touch? Have a look at my Resumé first, to find out more about me.
