Ground Zero

This is my first blog entry on my new site. Since 2004 I have had an ill-used and quite useless blog site at Blogger.com that I used to demo how blogs work, at least technically.

But at the time I had no time or interest in personal blogging. Time because I was starting a new job, and enormously busy getting up to speed. And interest in that I had other things to do in my spare time: spend time with friends, do work on our house, write magazine columns, and lots of other things.

But now I do have more time, and a reason. I have more time – well, just because I do. But my reasons are both philosophical and practical. They are philosophical as I have had a long interest in writing (having done a lot of it in my time). and a deep curiosity into how the Web impacts our sense of writing and the nature of communication and knowledge creation. And practically, the only way to truly understand this is to participate.

Thus I’ve finally gotten off of my proverbial ass [1] and joined in the world and process I find so fascinating.

We will see what that brings. I am excited. And if anyone reads any of these blog postings, I hope they are too!

[1] I say proverbial ass, of course, because I am actually on my proverbial ass as I write this.
